God made me. I made Biscuit

In the beginning the biscuit was formless. So Justin assembled the ingredients and created a biscuit. Justin said, “Let there be 1 cup of flour, 1.5 cups rolled oats and 1.5 cups coconut”, Justin called these the “dry ingredients” – part one. When Justin looked at the dry ingredients he said “it is not good for them to be alone, I will make a suitable partner for them”. So Justin said “let there be 150g of butter and 2T golden syrup” So Justin melted these, and he saw that it was good – part two. And Justin said “let there be 4T boiling water and 1t baking soda” So Justin added the baking soda to the water and saw that it went fizzy – part three. Then Justin mixed part two with part three and there was a great burst of energy and foam, Justin called this the liquid ingredients – part 4. And he saw that it was good. The dry and the liquid were both naked but there was no shame. Then Justin said let the two become one, so they were mixed – part 5.

At this point Justin realised he had done something wrong, as the dry was too much for the wet, and he had to compensate with more liquid. Justin was perplexed - he had been through this all before and never had this problem! Justin had thought it would be a clever time saver to do two things at once. He had simultaneously been conversing with bro over the phone. Justin still refuses to believe men can not do two things at once.

Then Justin said “let us make the biscuit in the image of a pizza” So Justin made the biscuit like a pizza. Like pizza did Justin make biscuit. Flat and round he created it. And Justin baked it – 180 °C for 15 min – part 6. Justin saw what he had made, and it was very good. The biscuit was completed in all its vast array. By part 7 Justin had finished the work he had been doing, so in part 7 he ate it. And Justin blessed part 7, because on it he ate all the good that was made.

Justin Needs

I am blatantly copying this idea that others have put on their blogs. You could try it too, do a google search on what you need. Supposedly there are 6,740,000 things that - Justin needs. Which only took 0.1 seconds to figure out, yet nobody has ever told me half these things. Where are my real friends who will be honest with me! google i can always turn to you for constructive criticism. So here is a sample of what Justin needs:

Help!
To start playing smash bros. again.
Parent(s) who will encourage emotional, social, and intellectual progress.
To learn this isn't 500bc and you can't bang every girl that makes your slinky go doing-! Doing.
A bigger part.
To be immediately hospitalised.
To get a new script for his medication.
A friend.
To go back to the outpatient clinic tomorrow morning and have some IV.
Our prayers.
To go home and watch it on television.
Better service, better prices ASAP!
A warm and loving family that will provide a safe and nurturing environment where he will continue to flourish.
To write songs about other things besides life experiences.
Her support.
Love from his human parents to be completely happy.
Prayers big time.
A hook to hang his vocals on.
Your payment in advance.
To figure out what Lance and Steve are doing.
Someone who will be willing to sit down and listen to him.
To get a slap.
To dump the granny.

Ok that was not the most up lifting exercise I have ever done.

Motivate me

I don’t have exams.

I have done enough of those to last for infinity.

The thing i have found most challenging about my masters this year is having so much flexibility with my time. At the mo im finding it hard to be focused on my lab work. I have this strange procrastination like feeling. what’s up with that! get away from me! Im not supposed to feel like this just because you have exams. Gees! Is all this exam fever rubbing off on me, including symptoms of procrastination? Or is it just that time of the year - which im used to associating with having to study while its sunny. But now i dont have to study for exams though i still have lab work to do, and its sunny and i don’t feel like working. Also I just spent 3 days in the most beautiful place ever with some awesome people and now its like - snap. back to reality, oh there goes gravity.

Gotta find some motivation.

The Routeburn

This labour weekend i was tramping on the Routeburn track. It is 32km long and passes through Aspiring national park and Fiordland national park

The scenery was amazing, probably the best ive ever seen! I got some pics for proof. I went with Jane Mackay, Nicola, Brent, and a couple of guys who Jane knew from Gore - Blake and Ben. They were great guys, both into outdoor adventure stuff like climbing mountains. It was cool having them with us cause they knew lots of stuff about the area.

Highlights were:

Going for swims on three different occasions in freezing cold but refreshing mountain streams/waterfalls/lakes - in that order.

Having breakfast at sunrise on Sunday morning:

Climbing up a snow covered hill (Conical hill). it really should be called a mountain i think, it was big enough. This part was a bit freaky at times, as the snow was icy and slippery in places and the fall down did not look nice. plus i only had cross trainers on and the others had proper boots. Ben gave me his special hiking poll which helped. the views at the top were worth it. Though it was great i was happy when we got down on to solid ground.

Meeting Jane’s parents. We stayed with them on their farm just out of Gore, they were so hospitable and Jane’s mum has the best baking!!! Coffee walnut shortbread! (this was a revelation to me, as i didn’t know shortbread could come in different flavours) Plus they were so amazing that they drove Nicolas' car from the end of the track we started at to the other side where we finished!! they are sheep farmers so I asked them questions about sheep, like what’s up with those black ones.

Seeing the Keas, there were a few at different places along the tack, they are a really nice green colour and they come quite close to ya.

The drive back along the Milford rd to Te Anau, a very scenic drive through some forests and plains and mountains near by.

Numerous spectacular views of mountains and rivers. I am desensitised to it all now:

Good company, Me and Jane sang Elton John and Justin Timberlake songs as we tramped (nothing to be ashamed of really). Me and Nicola and a random Scottish chick swam a lap around lake Mackenzie (well ok not the whole lake, but still we were in the water for at least 5 min! thats an effort i say). Blake and Ben were like mountain goats, they helped me climb conical hill by making foot holes in the snow. Brent gave me some chocolate, and he made a rather tasty biscuit dough out of milo and milk powder.

left to right: Ben, Blake, Jane, Nicola, Brent

The weather! considering it rains 200 days a year in Fiordland, us getting 3 amazingly clear days was pretty special. Jane and Blake had done this track before when it was raining, they said most of the time they couldnt see any of the views we saw this time.

We had really good food! Nicola and Jane had planned our dinners, they did a great job! We looked after our own breakfast and lunches. Had steak stirfry first night and lental stew thing on second (tastes better than it sounds), plus lots of chocolate.

Lastley does this hill in the middle of the valley remind anyone of the location for the castle in Rohan in Lord of the Rings?

New World has a Napoleon look a like policy

The following may not make much sense if you have not seen the movie 'Napoleon Dynamite'. It is a comedy about a high school geek, and i highly recommend it.

So there i was just parking my bike at center city new world, and who should happen to walk by, but Napoleon Dynamite!!!
I know!!!

Yes it is true. You may have herd rumors of Napoleon look a likes, every city has a few.

Our very own Dunedin Napoleon works at Center City New World. When i saw him he had a bright orange fluorescent vest on (so uncool, but so Napoleon), and he was pushing trolleys through the car park. His mass of, slightly messy, curly sandy blonde hair bobbing as he walked. I wanted to go and ask him if i could have some tots, but i was scared he would say - Get your own Freakin tots! so i didn't. Instead i asked if i could borrow his chap stick, but he said Eww gross, they have like 5 sticks at the information desk. (Ok so i didnt talk to him, I didnt want to upset him, he probably gets it all the time!).

As i said, every city has a few. So Wellington folks don't despair, for a very real Napoleon Dynamite has been sited on numerous occasions at Chaffers park New World. This Napoleon is often found at the check out, and he gives you your receipt with two hands! Something Napoleon dynamite would definitely do. (thanks to my Wellington correspondent - Ryan for this tip off!)

Wherever you are, be alert, a Napoleon may be living near you. If you cant find one go to your local new world, they are bound to know where he is. Though i might add a note of caution - there are some people, who have the Napoleon hair, and that's all, beware these people are more common than the real look a likes.

I have arranged three categories for classifying them:
1) They got the slightly messy, curly blond hair
2) They got the hair, the style, and the look
3) They got the Hair and the whole look, and the attitude! These guys are rare, they are so in napoleons' zone they don't even know it. When you find one, he will make you smile.

Based on this classification the Dunedin new world Napoleon is a 2) and the Wellington is close to a 3) and there was a guy i saw in the link today who is a 1) (he does ceroc, you might know him).

Let me know if you sight either of these Napoleon Dynamite's or if you find a new one.
